Microbial communities in aquatic ecosystems: structure and functioning. Vertical distribution of bacterial populations in gradient aquatic ecosystems. Microstratification of phototrophic and chemotrophic microbial populations in chemocline of meromictic lakes. Coexistence and ecology of phototrophic anoxic bacteria in meromictic lakes and benthic mats.
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
Laboratory research: cultivation of phototrophic sulfur bacteria, isolation of pure cultures of phototrophic sulfur bacteria, fluorescent in-situ hybridization (FISH), spectrophotometric and fluorescent pigment analysis, light and fluorescent microscopy.
Field research: bacteria and protozoa sampling, precision sampling by multi-syringe thin-layer sampler, sediment sampling, samples treatment and processing, operation the submersible probes, scuba diving
Mathematical modeling: modeling of microbial population dynamics, modeling of microbial processes of sulfur cycling.
